Our practice is latex-free with the exception of our rubber bandselastics used to correct bites.
Nickel is a metallic element used in many of the high tech ultra-flexible wires auxiliaries and stainless steel appliances used in orthodontic practice today including the braces themselves.
It is the common cause that triggers contact dermatitis. The allergic contact dermatitis can result in the itchy rash. The braces may contain nickel and they may be having an allergic reaction to it. Placement of orthodontic brackets influences the accumulation of biofilm and colonization of bacteria thereby making a patient more prone to inflammation and bleeding.
